At Orthodontic Experts we know how hard it is to maintain a healthy diet over the holiday season. Actually… who can resist the tasty Christmas treats? With your family and everybody else offering you yummy candy, chocolates or Christmas puffing you can’t just say “No” and stay happy. Perhaps, you already know that every sugary treat in your mouth is at your own expense, as sugar turns to acid, which eventually eats away at the enamel on your teeth and between your braces. That’s why we’d like to warn you an extra time that avoiding unhealthy treats is a one of the success keys during your orthodontic treatment.
Orthodontic Experts cares about you and your smile, so that is why we prepared for you a list of some Holiday Season goodies s that won’t make any harm to your teeth and won’t bother your orthodontic treatment:
- Hot cocoa
- Hershey’s Kisses
- Soft chocolates (the kind that melt in your mouth)
- Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups
- Ice cream
- Soft sugar cookies (decorated with frosting, not sprinkles)
- Cheesecake with strawberries
Meanwhile, it’s highly recommended to avoid the following foods:
- Candy canes
- Peanut brittle
- Gingerbread cookies
- Anything crunchy or containing nuts
- Popcorn (Braces hate popcorn)
Finally, always remember to floss after having some treats. If you don’t floss, the areas between your teeth and underneath your gums begin to breed bacteria, and eventually plaque — both of which love to hide and cause problems, and we are sure that you don’t want that.
