How to Get Your Kids Excited About Getting Braces

We know how kids, teens, and, even adults are often concerned about how would their life change after getting braces and wearing them for a prolonged period of time. Sometimes even Invisalign patients are worried and have their concerns. Therefore, when kids and teens are prepared and feeling positive about their orthodontic treatment, the process goes better and way more smoothly. Based on our experience, we would like to share with you some useful tips on how to get your child excited about braces or Invisalign. Firstly, keep your child informed because they always like to know what is going on. After you feel that they are familiar with the topic, try to ask questions. It is crucially important to figure out what concerns your teenager may have towards having orthodontic treatment. Knowing what is on the mind of your child will help to address these concerns while visiting an orthodontist. You, as the parent, are the first ones to be aware of it, as not every teen is willing to share their concerns immediately with a doctor. Secondly, focus on the results. Discuss with your child the future results of wearing braces, and how it can improve their life in the future. Dream together. You should remind your teen that orthodontic treatment is the best at an early age, as it can help to prevent dental issues but also help to correctly align the jaw and correct over or underbites. Basically, let them know that the sooner they start, the sooner it is over. Try to inspire them. Make together a mood board, where they can pin photos of their favorite celebrities who worn braces before. Social media and the Internet can help you with this. You can also remind your child about friends; acquaintances or relatives who wear braces and let them talk to each other. Your teen can also join groups or follow pages on social media where teens actively discuss their experiences. Additionally, you can also show photos of celebrities or other role models of your child, who once wore or still wears braces. Convince them, that there is nothing to be ashamed of when it comes to braces and remind your kid that you are always willing to support them during their treatment and remind that you both are making an investment in their smile for which they will be grateful forever. Finally, you can let them be creative and customize their future braces. For instance, you can use the platform PaintYourSmile, where your child can upload their photo, attach the bracket to the teeth, and choose colors they like. This way your child will have a chance to see and choose how they would look like with braces and become more certain about orthodontic treatment.
