Summer vacation is coming to an end, and it is time to pack the school bag once again. If you’re headed back to school with braces, then here are some tips from Orthodontic Experts to help you through the entire process.
Be Careful Eating
Always remember you have to eat well, so you perform the best in your classroom! Here is a list of different kinds of foods to avoid during your orthodontic treatment:
- Crunchy foods (popcorn, ice, chips)
- Carrots, nuts, and apples
- Hard candies, gum, and caramel
- Soft drinks and Sport drinks
Quick Fact: Did you know that these foods can damage your braces? It’s true! Please take extra caution when eating these foods or try to avoid them fully until your orthodontic treatment is completed.
Eating these certain foods can damage the wires and break them and we don’t want that to happen. It can also cause discomfort and lengthen your treatment even longer. To best avoid these problems, eat right and stay on the right track for your orthodontic treatment.
Here are all the foods that YOU can eat, while you have braces:
- Bread like tortillas, pancakes, and muffins
- Dairy products like yogurt, soft cheese, and puddings
- Bananas and papayas
- Soft cooked chicken
- Seafood like tuna and salmon
- Eggs, fruit smoothies, and macaroni
When it is lunchtime check the menu and make sure you’re picking the right items that won’t affect your orthodontic treatment. Sometimes the school cafeteria only has limited options, so if that happens switch to another plan and bring your own lunch from home.
