Metal braces are the most common type and are smaller and more comfortable today than ever before. Made of medical stainless steel, metal braces straighten your teeth using brackets bonded directly to your teeth, and metal arch wires that are changed and adjusted at your adjustment appointments. With metal braces, you have the option of adding coloured elastics (small vinyl o-rings that connect the arch wires to the brackets) for a more unique appearance. So you colours can be different every month, as you wish.
Made of materials including ceramics and synthetic sapphire, clear braces are less visible than metal. They are precise and highly adjustable like metal braces. Clear braces are slightly more fragile than metal, so extra care must be taken with them.
Lingual braces are one of the “invisible” treatment methods that your orthodontist may have to offer.
For the most part, they look like conventional dental braces that have been mounted on the backside (lingual, tongue side) of of your teeth. This hides them from view, making them unnoticeable to others.
